10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

outdoor spring cleaning

Spring cleaning is not exciting for a lot of us. But it is important. As the winter end and we begin looking forward to spring and warmer weather, something inside of us tells us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and purging things we’ve collected over the winter.

But who says spring cleaning is limited to the interior of a house?
The outside of your house could probably use a little tidying up after a cold, dreary winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the curb appeal of your house in Port St. Lucie, and, more importantly, will provide much-needed care and maintenance that will save a lot of money over the years to come.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the optimal time of year to clean out your gutters, since so many of leaves and debris pile up during the fall and winter. The pollen count is at its highest during spring, making a huge mess in your gutters if they are not properly cleaned.

Plus, pests and animals are searching for places to build homes during spring, so getting your gutters cleaned out will help stop an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew, stains and restoring them to a like-new appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Exterior window cleaning is necessary for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows will not give you much of a problem, but any second and third floor windows can be tougher to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is an exhausting job, and will require a lot of tools, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the recommended way to get the panes and the outer frame clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You aren’t going to want clean gutters and clean windows on a dirty house. Which means you will want to pressure wash your house too!

Pressure washing is quick, effective and doesn’t cost very much. You can pressure clean your house, outdoor furniture, patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with very little effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they will not stain your house, and you can stop the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your driveway and giving it a deep cleaning may seem counter-productive since you will still be driving on it, but, a clean, well-maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.

A professional pressure washing service can do wonders for driveway cleaning, whether it is pavement, asphalt, brick or some other material. Also think about adding a gravel or mulch border to your driveway to really help it pop!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your patio probably gets the most use throughout the summer, so it’s easy to forget about it during the winter since you are not doing a lot of outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio can be in pretty bad shape the first time you walk onto it in spring.

Soap and water – and a little muscle – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you notice signs of mold or mildew, you might need to think about a more aggressive option, like professional power washing, to guarantee that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer.

6. Roof Cleaning

Mold and moss are typical home roof issues in Port St. Lucie. While you’re cleaning the outside of your house, it is a great time to pressure clean your roof as well, but you will have to use a different method than the one you use for most of your home’s exterior.

If you notice streaks on your roof, algae is probably the reason. Moss is typically obvious, too. These contaminants can’t be wiped off shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof of your house. Both of these methods will ruin the shingles on your roof.

The ideal process for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water mixture and leave it be. This will eliminate all organisms on your roof without reducing its lifespan.

7. Tidy up the Front

The front of your house is probably what most people see, so make the best impression you can for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Returning home to a beautiful exterior will instantly improve your day, and will even encourage you to spend a lot more time outdoors.

You can clean your porch with soap and water or a good pressure wash. Wipe cobwebs and mud off of the front porch, and think about painting it for a really bright look! Clean forgotten areas such as the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Garden Tools

You will be spending much more time outside, so spring is a great chance to organize whatever you will need for outdoor chores.

Yard tools and pool care equipment must all have a specific area outside your house – a place that it is safe from weather and not in sight so it is not a constant eyesore to anyone. Taking the time to organize in the spring allows you to appreciate the outside of your house much more throughout the time of year when you are going to spend the most time outdoors.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your lawn, trees and garden bushes make a major impact on the look of your house.

Eliminate weeds around your flower beds and walkways, till up areas where you’ll be planting later on and sweep off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed killer to make lawn maintenance easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After sitting unused for several months, your grill could need a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are unappetizing, but they can make you and your family ill.

Wet it down to get rid of ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber or grill brush (so you don’t leave behind metal particles that can sometimes get into food) and a dish soap or degreaser.

You can probably finish all of these projects over the course of a few weekends but it will be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call!
